Leo Green

By the age of 20, Leo was playing sax for Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, who declared Leo "The greatest sax player I have ever worked with".

Following two years touring all over the world with Jerry, Leo then joined Van Morrison's band for several years, appearing throughout the world, playing concerts, festivals and theatres. During this period, Leo recorded many albums with Van, as a soloist and as an arranger.

Leo has worked with a who’s who of music: Jools Holland, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, James Brown, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Jones, Ronnie Wood, Paul Weller, Chrissie Hynde, Lionel Richie, Sting, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Ray Davies, Jeff Beck, Joss Stone, Bryan Adams, Bryan Ferry, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Ben E. King, Sam Moore, John Dankworth, Clarence Clemons, Noel Gallagher, Georgie Fame, Paul Carrack, Lulu, Jamiroquai, Lisa Stansfield, Cerys Matthews, Heather Small, The Stereophonics, Mick Hucknall, Robbie Williams, Gabrielle, Sir Paul McCartney and many others.

Leo joined the BBC Radio 2 line-up in 2013 and has since presented many shows for the station, including his highly acclaimed “Sounds Of The 50s” shows, his “Leo Green Remembers…” series and his “In Conversation…”series, which has featured Leo in conversation with Sir Van Morrison, amongst others.

In 2011, Leo co-founded Bluesfest, an annual festival which now takes place at London’s iconic 02 Arena, at the end of October ever year.

More recently Leo hosted and lead the band on the highly successful Rip It Up 50s tour, starring Strictly Come Dancing’s Natalie Lowe, along with Strictly champions Jay McGuinness and Louis Smith. He has also been performing with stars such as Beverley Knight, Keane's Tom Chapin and Imelda May, celebrating the catalogues of Stevie Wonder, Queen and Celtic artists, under the banner of Friday Night Is Music Night Live with Radio Two.
